Obelo Privacy Policy

Effective: November 1, 2026

Obelo is an app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV that plays movies, shows and music from an Obelo media server. That can be a server you run yourself, or one run by someone who shares their library with you. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the app.

The short version

We, the developer of Obelo, do not collect any information about you. The app has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no crash reporting, and it never sends anything to us. Everything the app sends goes to the Obelo server you choose to connect to.

What we collect

Nothing. We don't run any servers that the app talks to, and the app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code. We cannot see who uses Obelo, what you watch or listen to, or anything else about you.

What goes to the Obelo server you connect to

To work at all, the app sends information to the Obelo server you sign in to:

  • Sign-in details. Your username and password, or a sign-in code you approve from another device.
  • Device details. Your device's name (for example, "Living Room"), its type (iPhone, iPad or Apple TV), and a random identifier the app creates so the server can tell your devices apart. That identifier is not linked to your Apple ID or to any advertising identifier.
  • Activity. What you browse, search for and play, and how far you got, so the server can keep track of what you've watched and where to resume.

That server is run by you or by the person who invited you, not by us. Whoever runs it controls this information, and their own practices apply to it. Some server features, such as finding subtitles, may have the server contact other services. That is set up by the server's operator.

What stays on your device

The app saves the address of your server, your sign-in token (in the device's secure Keychain), the random device identifier, and your settings. On iPhone and iPad it also saves any movies, episodes or music you choose to download for offline use. Deleting the app removes all of this.

Permissions

  • Local network. Used to find Obelo servers on your network and to stream from them.
  • Camera (iPhone and iPad only). Used only to scan a sign-in code shown on your Apple TV, or an invitation to someone's shared library. The image is read on your device and is never saved or sent anywhere. You can type or paste the code instead.

Links to other websites

On iPhone and iPad, some screens link to outside websites, such as a film's page on a movie database. These open in a browser view, and that website's own privacy policy applies.

Children

Obelo is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will post the new version at this address and update the effective date above.
